Siemens Solar Industries scores high marks on SP75 and SP36 solar panels for marine applications

CAMARILLO, Calif., March 29, 1999 -- The Siemens Solar SP75 module received the ``Highly Commended" mark from Yachting World Magazine (March 1999) after rigorous on-water testing. Additionally, Siemens Solar SP36 module received top scores for reliability and ease-of-use. The ``Great Atlantic Gear Test" tested more than 50 products over a stretch of 5,000 miles of ocean sailing.  With 85 Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) skippers testing what works and what's indispensable, the results are impressive.  The road test was equivalent to over 400,000 miles of sailing.

``With millions of boats registered in the United States, the marine market matches well with the high quality standards we've set for our products", said Chet Farris, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Siemens Solar Industries.  He added, ``Siemens Solar is the sole-source for the United States Coast Guard for navigational aids such as lighthouses, buoys, and markers.  Our modules are designed to meet the rugged marine market requirements."
Simply, solar modules harness the power of the sun to keep batteries on boats charged.  They require no fuel, are completely silent, and have no adverse effects on the environment.

Siemens Solar modules, SP75 and SP36, are rugged, low-maintenance, and can withstand harsh elements. The SP75 is a 75-watt panel that measures 47.3" by 20.8" while the SP36 is a 36-watt panel that measures 24.9" by 20.8".  The panels are made of single-crystalline solar cells that deliver excellent performance even in reduced light or poor weather conditions. Solar cells are laminated for environmental protection, moisture resistance, and electrical isolation. The corrosion resistant anodized aluminum frame provides strong, solid support.  Pre-drilled holes around the perimeter make mounting easy.  Both modules are available from local marine suppliers including West Marine (www.westmarine.com).
Siemens Solar is comprised of Siemens Solar GmbH in Munich, a joint venture of Siemens AG and Bayernwerk AG, Siemens Solar Industries L.P. in Camarillo (CA) and two Joint Ventures: Siemens Showa Solar Ltd., Singapore, and Showa Solar Energy KK, Tokyo. Siemens Solar has supplied over 150 MW throughout the world, making it the leading company in the photovoltaics industry.  The company's web site is
